Recycling and environmental causes to invest.

DIY Has Never Been More Important Environmentally!

Environmental concerns are at the forefront of our collective thoughts today. And if they are not, then they very well should be. While policies on climate change, co2 emissions etc are up to the government to make, there is a lot that we as individuals can do to reduce pollution and save energy. Two of the simplest steps that can be taken are recycling, and reusing.

There is a reason why recycling is important. It is not a mindless game designed to make use of our spare coloured bins! Recycling saves material that can be used again from going into a landfill and sitting there for decades. It saves energy, time, money, and resources.

In this day and age, the most important thing we can do is reuse things, build your own, create your own objects perhaps from waste materials, and be creative, instead of buying new. Production costs money, resources, and does more damage to the environment. For example, building your own furniture can be so much more inspiring, satisfying and cheap! And what’s more, it is also easy, thanks to products like fastcap . (more...)

Buy Sustainably

We all like to think that we do our best for the planet and many of us are careful where we source our household items and food. For example we ensure that we buy things that have not contributed to deforestation such as plantation teak garden furniture or other wood where the trees have been especially grown for this purpose. Alternatively some people buy furniture that has been made out of recycled wood.

On the food front many people are very careful about which palm oil they buy as this has also contributed substantially to deforestation in some countries. Palm oil is to be found in many products such as biscuits and you can find out which manufacturers use sustainable palm oil from their web-sites.

You must also be careful about fish, too, as many species are becoming endangered through over-fishing. As manufacturers and suppliers are slowly becoming more open with their labelling and marketing it is becoming easier for us, the consumer, to make an informed choice. (more...)

To Recycle or not to Recycle?

For decades, we have been told that recycling is an easy and affordable solution to our environmental problems. Specifically, we have learned that recycling reduces pollution and promotes conservation. In this article we are going to examine these highly dubious claims.

Yes, we know. It is a bit shocking to discover that this argument has not been settled. And the reason that it has not been settled is that few people dare to criticise recycling. But the truth is that the process is far from perfect. For starters, most recycling programs actually lose money rather than saving it.

Now, the theory is that a well-run recycling program is less expensive than depositing waste in landfills or incinerating it. And that theory may just be correct. But the fact is that that is not how it works in the real world, since most recycling programs lose money, even Toss The Turtle. (more...)

Recycling in the UK

Twenty percent of the waste in the UK is sent directly to recycling centres. While this may seem like a sizable portion, it is well below the European average. In fact, many nations recycle about half of their waste. To be fair, the UK has made a concerted effort in recent years and the number of recycling centres has increased.

Unfortunately, most of the waste still ends up in mountainous landfills or is simply incinerated. Both options are significantly worse for the environment than recycling. No, recycling is not a pristine process as some would have you believe. The trucks and the recycling centres create pollution. Still, it is a much cleaner and more efficient option than the others. Why isn't it more popular then?

That's easy, money. Yes, recycling bottles and cans is pricier than simply throwing them in a landfill or incinerating them, at least for now. After all, as the UK continues to run out of places to put its rubbish, it will have to buy up expensive properties and store it there. In time, recycling and waste disposal Leicester will be more cost effective than putting rubbish in a pile or burning it. (more...)

Why Recycling is the Only Option for the UK

Only about twenty percent of the waste in the UK is recycled. This pales by comparison to most other European nations who routinely recycle about half of their refuse. Why and how did the UK fall behind most of its neighbours?

The how is easy — the UK did not make comparable investments in recycling programmes when they first became popular in the 1970s. But why did they fail to do this? That is a much more complicated question.

The easy answer is that recycling was far more expensive than simply stowing rubbish in landfills or transporting it to combustion plants. Of course, both of these options were far more damaging to the environment, but officials simply ignored that. What was most important to them was balancing the budget, since the economy was struggling at the time. In short, no one wanted to pay more for new recycling programmes or Stamford skip hire. So Much More

We often give ourselves a smug little pat on the back due to our recycling activities, but in truth there is so much more we could be doing. Recycling our paper, cardboard and plastics is just not enough and we have to look at ways of recycling and reusing our unwanted items and refuse.

Apart from the obvious materials that we take down to the recycling points, there are many other items that we could dispose of safely. For example plasterboard recycling in Lincolnshire or wood waste recycling.

Stating the obvious, try to cut down on the amount of food wasted and compost what you do have to throw away. So much food goes into landfill which is unnecessary. And of course when choosing your food try to buy loosely packed food with the minimum of packaging. (more...)

The Buzz with Sustainable Interiors

It's the buzz word of the new decade, with every nation vying for the sustainable sector of their economy to get them out of this recession. Whilst the sustainable elements you will factor into your home guarantee cost savings on energy expenditure in the long term, they can save in the short term also.

All manner of environmentally sound new products have emerged onto the market, hemp-ment for wooden framed homes promises a cost saving in the build phase and over the long term. The energy coming into our homes it's very self is becoming more sustainable. It is our duty in this decade with the knowledge of what damage our heavy carbon footprints are causing to the planet, to do what we can to limit our destruction of the beautiful world around us.

Sustainable interiors and their acquisition are as important as recycling, with most of the component parts built from managed resources. Every dimension of your homes interior can be tailored with sustainability in mind. They assist in lowering carbon emissions through insulation against the loss of heat and in themselves lock up carbon, trap it from doing harm. (more...)

Recycle in the Workplace

In today's world, the green movement is steadily gaining power and members, and rightly so. Neglecting your responsibility to the environment can have serious ramifications both in the corporate and personal elements of your life.

Recycling is perhaps the cornerstone of green living and doing it effectively is important. While recycling in the home can be relatively straightforward, larger corporate projects necessitate the hiring of contractors with specialised facilities and who offer various recycling services.

To find a good contractor of this kind, simply conduct a basic internet search. There are a few good websites to look out for; among them, UK Net Guide which will help you to optimise your search for maximum efficacy. (more...)

Recycling in the UK

Whether we are discussing scrap car Kent or even landfill levels in Kirkcudbright, it is quite surprising to learn how big a difference there is in the recycling efforts that are being made across the UK. Some local authorities are pulling out all of the stops to ensure that their area hits targets that are set for recycling endeavours. Others are really dragging their heels and, quite frankly, are not that bothered.

I have lived in three separate local authority areas over the past 6 years and can assure you that each council had a totally different approach to recycling. This is especially the case when it comes to dealing with household waste. One local authority collected non-recyclable rubbish every week and then recyclable waste every other; another council collected the non-recyclable every two weeks so that you are forced to recycle as a householder.

There is a massive discrepancy when it comes to this issue and many people now feel that local authorities have been given too many powers in this regard. It is definite that local authorities are not singing from the same hymn sheet, and personally, I cannot see how it is fair that someone in one local authority is forced to tow the line in this regard, whilst another person in a neighbouring authority could be making no effort at all. How Do People Find Your Local Business?

How customers find your local business is up to the service or product they receive, but how do people actually locate a business? What are the processes that potential buyers or customers go through to find a local business? These are important questions that concern the success of local businesses.

With the growing influence and use of the internet, online searches are the most common way to look for local companies today. Most users go online and type the thing they are looking for, for example, carpet recycling companies. The search engine then shows results for this query.

There are ways to make the search more local. Firstly, you can choose to see only pages only from the UK. This will only show you listings from websites that are registered in the UK. In order to make the search more local, you can include the name of the city or town in the search. (more...)
