We often give ourselves a smug little pat on the back due to our recycling activities, but in truth there is so much more we could be doing. Recycling our paper, cardboard and plastics is just not enough and we have to look at ways of recycling and reusing our unwanted items and refuse.
Apart from the obvious materials that we take down to the recycling points, there are many other items that we could dispose of safely. For example plasterboard recycling in Lincolnshire or wood waste recycling.
Stating the obvious, try to cut down on the amount of food wasted and compost what you do have to throw away. So much food goes into landfill which is unnecessary. And of course when choosing your food try to buy loosely packed food with the minimum of packaging.
Household items too can be recycled much more efficiently than we are currently doing. Instead of buying more and more, try and reuse some of what you already have in your own home. If not, have a clear out and take your unwanted things down to the local car boot sale.
Someone, somewhere is bound to want what you no longer need and you will make a little money in the process. If you do not have the inclination to sell at a car boot, you can always freecycle or give it away to charity shops. Let's cut down our waste!
