The company that deals
with Brighton & Hove's waste, Onyx, has made a planning
application to build a Waste Transfer Station and Material
Recovery Facility at the former abbattoir site off Hollingdean
Lane.
The site will process
ALL the waste from the Brighton & Hove area - 120,000
tonnes of waste every year. The buildings will be 15 -
20 metres high. HGV's will be entering and exiting the
site every five minutes, every day of the week.
This is a moral and an
ethical issue. A developement like this should not be
dumped on anyone's doorstep. THE
SIZE OF IT IS JUST TOO LARGE. This is NOT
a campaign against the principals of recycling local waste.
We Oppose This
Development Because:
Its going to be NEXT
DOOR to two schools and hundreds of homes - less
than 15 meters from the Downs Infants School Playground.

THE TRAFFIC ASSOCIATED
WITH THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT AND THE INCREASE OF THE
CITY CLEAN HGV FLEET TO SERVICE IT, WILL -
A) be noisy - according to Onyx, there will be "substantial"
noise levels.
B) generate a huge amount of pollution.
C) cause more congestion - over 300 HGV movements a day
which will generate a huge amount
of pollution & make the roads surrounding the site
dangerous.
