John Collis of Onyx is right to say that
a material recycling facility and waste transfer station
is an important part of the local waste strategy - and especially
important if we are to increase recycling.
He is wrong to say that Hollingdean
Depot is the appropriate site for it.
Hollingdean Depot was once on the edge of
Brighton with a few houses nearby. The area is now mainly
residential with a school overlooking the site. Hollingdean
Road with its narrow railway bridge arch does not provide
the right access for yet more heavy vehicles. And there
will also be more vehicle movemnets on the site.
Those who might consider using the campaign
against this planning application to undermine a waste strategy
which has been through years of consultation deserve no
support.
Local residents and parents concerned
about the impact on their immediate area deserve every support.
That's why I have asked the Council's Chief
Executive to work with Onyx to find a more suitable site
on the edge of the city. Several were suggested when the
waste strategy was first being discussed some years ago.
Now is the time to look at the alternatives again.
Yours sincerely

MP, Brighton Pavillion
